Finding that Netflix isnot working on your Roku? Sometimes apps like Netflix just stop working without any provocation
whatsoever. There are a number of reasons why this will happen and it’s not
always easy to pinpoint the exact issue. There’s no need to freak out though,
we’ve got you covered. If you’re using a Roku for your entertainment needs, here are a few
ways to get your Netflix up and running again in the event that it suddenly
stops working.
Check your
network settings
Believe it or
not, this is the most common culprit. Your Roku may have just temporarily lost
connection to your network. In which case, you can check your network settings
in the Roku user interface
On the home
screen, scroll down and enter the Settings menu.
Scroll down and
open the Network option to see if you’re Roku TV, streaming stick or set-top
box is still connected.
If it is, you can
click on the Check Connection option to test out your network connection.
If things appear
fine on that end, take a look at your router and make sure it’s connected.
Depending on the type of Roku device, it may benefit to try switching from a
wireless connection to a wired one with an ethernet cable. Roku’s support
page also has a list of error codes that can help you pinpoint your
connectivity problems.
Beyond that, you
might wanna check with your internet provider, but that can be left as a last
resort.
Check for updates
After a while,
apps can just start to act funny, especially if the software hasn’t been
updated in a while. Sometimes developers push backend changes that also require
front-end updates to get them to work, otherwise, they’ll stall. Simply
updating your apps should help to ensure that they continue working flawlessly.
Normally Roku
checks for updates whenever it is turned on, or every 24-36 hours. You can also
manually check for updates to the Neflix app.
On the home
screen, scroll down and enter the Settings menu.
Scroll down and
select the System option.
Then click on the
Software Update selection
Finally, click on
the Check Now option This will check for both Roku system updates and Netflix
app updates.
Restart your Roku
Have you tried
turning your device on and off again? No seriously, this works more often than
not. Give your Roku a little reboot by unplugging it for at least 10 seconds.
Plug it back in and turn on the device. Wait at least one minute before going
back into Netflix.
Netflix not
working on Roku: Re-Download the Netflix app
Another easy fix
is to simply uninstall and redownload the Netflix app. This, of course, erases
all your login info from the device, but it also acts as a full reboot on the
app, so any issues you were facing may clear up.
Now you know what
to do if you find that Netflix is not working on your Roku. Hopefully, any one
of these tips can help you get your Netflix back to binging state. If any of
you have any additional tips or tricks to get Netflix up and running again on
your Roku device, feel free to comment below!
